DaBaby Switching To R&B? Rapper Jokes As Career Tumbles After Homophobic Rant
Rapper DaBaby joked Tuesday about switching to R&B as his music career has taken a slide. The 29-year-old made homophobic comments at the Rolling Loud music festival in Miami causing sharp backlash on social media.
He posted a video with his daughter singing “Power Trip” by J.Cole and made a caption that said, “They done canceled yo daddy twin I’m switching to R&B, F*** a rap.”
The comments suggest he acknowledges the fallout and the price he has paid.
DaBaby’s career took a hit after he asked the crowd during his performance to put their phones up “if you didn’t show up today with HIV/AIDS or other STDs that’ll make you die in 2-3 weeks” and if they “didn’t suck a n**** d*** in the parking lot.”
The comments in Miami, which has among the highest percentages of same-sex couple households in the country, prompted a sharp rebuke from the LGBTQ community. He was also dropped from music festivals Lollapalooza, Governors Ball, and Day N Vegas. His co-artist, Dua Lipa, said she was "horrified" by his comments.
DaBaby has recorded three studio albums since debuting in 2019.
