Drew Barrymore Reveals How 'Queer Eye' Fab Five Prepared Her For Dating Again
Drew Barrymore has credited the "Queer Eye" team, known as Fab Five, for helping her enter the dating world again. She revealed this during a conversation with Entertainment Tonight.
"Things do not magically fall out of the sky onto your lap. We all got to get proactive in our lives and I have been apprehensive to ever do anything virtual, the dating apps," the 46-year-old actress said.
The mother of two admitted that dating has been "hard" for her, just like most people. However, she is ready to bring in some changes in her life in order to make everything fall into place.
"I am ready to have realizations about what is it that is going on in me and my life," she told ET. "Because maybe it's not about the apps or the state of the world. I would like to figure out my side of the street and things will fall into place after that."
The actress said Bobby Berk (one of the members of the Netflix reality show) helped her understand herself and about dating while having kids.
"So much of this is really about for me and my little journey, is I don't know how to date with kids, I don't want to bring men around, I am very protective," she explained. "And this is really me putting my toe in the water to say I am learning things about myself which is going to help me and my approach moving forward."
Barrymore said the "Queer Eye" star told her, "Your apprehension and cautiousness is what helps make you a good parent." This turned out to be a healing moment for the actress.
She reflected on her Zoom date with "Top Chef" star Sam Talbot, which was set up by the "Queer Eye" members.
"It was like The Drew Barrymore Show x Queer Eye x New York Times' Modern Love. I feel like this episode is sort of a love letter to what it is like to date in the modern world," she said.
They chose Zoom because the chef was located in Los Angeles, while she was in New York with her kids. The actress said the Fab 5 helped her throughout the Zoom date.
"It was so fun," she said. "I had Jonathan [Van Ness] holding up, like, silly questions and naughty signs making me giggle. I had Tan [France] saying, 'Hey, I notice something over there,' like, ask him about that."
The date seems to be successful as the actress reveals they are planning to meet in real life and are also texting regularly.
On the work front, Barrymore was last seen in the movie "A Castle for Christmas," which was dropped on Nov. 26 last year.
