‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival: Season 2 Is ‘Definitely Possible,’ Amy Sherman-Palladino Says
“Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life” was released nearly a year ago to much excitement, but there still hasn’t been any official news about the dramedy returning. However, showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino is giving fans hope.
“We carved out a little niche for ourselves with Amazon saying that if we ever want to do it, if the girls and us get together and we have a concept that works, then we have the freedom to do it,” Sherman-Palladino told RadioTimes.
That’s good news for fans. When the writer signed a multi-year deal with Amazon Studios, many fans wondered if that meant “Gilmore Girls” would be on hiatus for eternity. After all, Netflix and Amazon are big rivals. Sherman-Palladino’s news that the deal would let her work on the Netflix revival means that the second season of “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” could come at any time. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem imminent.
“So it would just have to be the right circumstances, and that we’re all sort of in the same drunken mood together to go repaint Stars Hollow again,” the writer added. “Because we had to repaint Stars Hollow, and we’ll have to repaint it again. But it’s definitely possible.”
As previously reported, both stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel have said that they aren’t sure there is a need for more, and they don’t want the show to go on too long.
“If it all existed in a vacuum, I would play that character until my dying day… Now it’s become what could we do with this story that is satisfying, that is worth continuing,” Graham told TVLine. “I don’t know if there is a need to do more. I wouldn’t want it to feel like we overstayed our welcome.”
However, if Sherman-Palladino has an idea she wants to explore, they’re both up for returning. Of course, she’s a bit busy with her new show, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” The series, which focuses on a housewife who discovers her talent as a standup comic, will premiere Wednesday, Nov. 29 on Amazon.
The Gilmore girls themselves are keeping busy too. Bledel received an Emmy for her work on “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and she’ll return for Season 2 next year. Graham is working on her next novel and will appear in Sunday’s episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
