‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Spinoff Casts Five Series Regulars Including Grey Damon, Jay Hayden
The “Grey’s Anatomy” firefighter-themed spinoff is slowly coming into fruition as ABC cast five series regular to join “Rosewood” alum Jaina Lee Ortiz.
According to Deadline, the yet-to-be-titled show will feature Grey Damon, Jay Hayden, Okieriete Onaodowan, Danielle Savre and Barrett Doss. All six actors will also be joining “Grey’s Anatomy” cast member Jason George, who plays the role of Dr. Ben Warren in the hit ABC series.
The spinoff, which is also being executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, will have a total of 10 episodes. It will center on a group of firefighters in Seattle who risk their lives to save others. Before the spinoff premieres in the coming months, the characters in the series will first be introduced in a fall episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 14, according to TV Line.
Meanwhile, George’s casting in the spinoff was announced by ABC last month. The actor opened up about the fate of his character and Dr. Bailey’s (Chandra Wilson) marriage after Ben decides to leave Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for a job with the firefighters. According to the actor, he’s confident Dr. Bailey will understand his decision.
In fact, George is also hopeful that the two characters could reunite on screen with a possible crossover between “Grey’s Anatomy” and the spinoff. “Bailey can come home and fall into bed, and there’s Ben, and they can talk about their day. Or Ben comes home from fighting fires all day and falls into bed, and there’s Bailey. I’ve come to really love their relationship. I’m proud of it. They’re grown-ass people with grown-ass problems who work it out no matter what,” he told TV Line.
George also said that he’s confident his character will never cheat on his wife. “It would have to be crazy amounts of arguments… A lot of space and time… and then Halle Berry has to guest star. That’s pretty much how it has to go,” he joked.
“Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff will premiere on ABC sometime midseason. “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 14 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT.
