Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde may be used to living in the spotlight but they were not prepared for some of the hate they received from his fans after going public with their relationship.

The "As It Was" singer opened up about his love life and some of the obstacles he has faced in a new interview with Rolling Stone.

Wilde, 38, and Styles, 28, were first romantically linked in late 2020, months after the "Booksmart" director ended her seven-year engagement with Jason Sudeikis.

The One Direction alum and the actress formed a bond while shooting the film "Don't Worry Darling."

Once Styles' fans learned about the blossoming romance, Wilde was bombarded with negative comments on social media.

"That obviously doesn't make me feel good," Styles told the publication. "It's obviously a difficult feeling to feel like being close to me means you're at the ransom of a corner of Twitter or something. I just wanted to sing. I didn't want to get into it if I was going to hurt people like that."

While the actress noted that most of Styles' fans are "deeply loving people," she revealed those who spread negativity don't align with the singer's values.

"What I don't understand about the cruelty you're referencing is that that kind of toxic negativity is the antithesis of Harry, and everything he puts out there," Wilde said.

"I don't personally believe the hateful energy defines his fan base at all. The majority of them are true champions of kindness."

Despite some of the backlash the couple has received, Styles revealed he's learned not to respond to criticism.

"I've never talked about my life away from work publicly and found that it's benefited me positively," Styles explained.

"There's always going to be a version of a narrative, and I think I just decided I wasn't going to spend the time trying to correct it or redirect it in some way."

Styles is currently in the middle of a 15-show residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The "Love On Tour" artist will kick off the Texas leg of his concert tour starting Sept. 25 in Austin.
