Plenty of fans watching Season 9 of “American Ninja Warrior” have likely wondered what it takes to get on the NBC show. While becoming a contestant isn’t easy, anyone that fulfills the show's requirements theoretically has a chance to compete for the million-dollar grand prize.

How does a person audition to be on “American Ninja Warrior?” The deadline to apply for the next season has yet to be revealed, though the application process will likely remain the same.

In order to be on the show, you must be a legal resident of the United States, at least 21 years old and in “good health and capable of participating in strenuous athletic activities.” Applicants must submit a clear digital photo of themselves, as well as a video that is between two and three minutes in length.

Filling out the application at anwcasting.com isn’t very difficult, though your answers will determine whether or not you can get selected to appear at a qualifying round. Many of the questions are simple ones that would appear on a basic job application (date of birth, address, phone number), but others are a little more unique.

For example, the application asks prospective contestants to list the worst job they’ve ever had, as well as why it was their least favorite job. Applicants must also let the show’s producers know what sport they have played in the past and if they’ve ever tried out for “American Ninja Warrior” before. Listing any previous experience on other reality-TV shows is also a must.

Having an athletic background and showing signs of being able to complete obstacles is obviously important—those who run the show won’t let someone on that isn’t physically fit and has no chance to put up a good showing. But having an interesting personality and a captivating background story also plays a big role in your ultimate fate regarding the show.

“We can’t overstate,” host Matt Iseman told Reality Blurred, “if it weren’t for the stories, it would be people doing a jungle gym for two hours, and I think the stories we tell resonate with people.”

If you pass all the physical requirements and provide an application and video that gets the attention of the decision-makers at NBC, you could move on to the qualifying round. You must be able to compete at one of the regional rounds, and the athletes are responsible for getting there on their own dime.

Season 9 of “American Ninja Warrior” premiered in early June and the qualifying rounds took place in March, April and May of this year. They were filmed in six cities across the country, as the show made its way to Los Angeles, San Antonio, Cleveland, Denver, Kansas City (Missouri) and Dayton (Florida).

If you make it far enough, you can compete in the finals. The Season 9 finals are being taped in Las Vegas from June 18 to June 24.

ANWTryouts.com has the updated schedule and location information for qualifying rounds of “American Ninja Warrior.” The application deadline for this past season was Jan. 2.
