How ‘Avengers’ Star Chris Evans Named His Adorable Dog Dodger
Chris Evans is a dog lover, but he also loves Boston. The Massachusetts native often makes his love for teams like the Patriots and Red Sox clear. So it might be a bit odd to hear that Evans named his dog Dodger, which is a Los Angeles baseball team. However, it turns out his love for movies influenced the name rather than his sports teams.
Esquire’s April cover story reveals that the Captain America actor named the dog after his favorite character in a Disney movie. This might not be surprising to fans who know that Evans is a huge Disney fan, and it’s not just because the company owns Marvel. He has previously stated his love for animated classics from the ‘90s like “Aladdin” and “The Little Mermaid.”
“As a kid, he loved the Disney animated movie ‘Oliver & Company,’ and his favorite character was Dodger. Anticipating the grief he was going to get from his pals, Evans considered other names,” Esquire reports. It was his mother Lisa who convinced him to stick to his choice.

Evans got the dog from a shelter in Georgia while filming “Gifted” last year, which hits theaters April 12. Though Evans has only had the pet for about a year, Dodger has made headlines several times.
When Evans visited “The Tonight Show” last May, he showed off the dog’s tendency to plop down wherever he feels like it — including on top of Evans’ niece Stella. Watch the cute video below:
Just a few months later, Dodger adorably interrupted the Marvel actor’s pushup challenge video. It seems Dodger prefers cuddles to workouts.
Evans will likely be taking Dodger to Atlanta soon, if they aren’t already there. That’s where “Avengers: Infinity War” is currently filming.
