How Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Renewed Public Adoration, Lost It In Days

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were able to restore their glory but just in days.

According to Daniela Elser of News.com.au, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex enjoyed a rollercoaster of ups and downs since their wedding in May 2018. Prince Harry and Markle faced negative headlines all year round and were able to redeem themselves following their tour to South Africa.

“The tour was a chance to wipe the slate clean. Public sentiment is nothing if not fickle. Which means that just as fast as their brand had been tarnished by all of this persistent negative coverage, they could swiftly and simply repair it,” Elser wrote.

The media praised the couple especially after stepping out with baby Archie. Many even believed that Prince Harry and Markle’s trip to South Africa was successful even before it ended.

However, the royal couple lost the glory in a matter of days after making a critical move of filing a lawsuit against Mail on Sunday. Four days after that, Prince Harry sued The Sun and The Mirror for an alleged phone hacking in the early 2000s and by doing so, the couple turned the tide against them.

“And just like that — POOF! The goodwill and warm wave of adoration evaporated to be replaced by rancorous argument. All the press coverage of the trip was immediately subsumed by news stories and opinion pieces debating the Sussexes’ audacious campaign against Fleet Stree,” Elser added.

Prince Harry and Markle were accused of working against Prince William by upsetting the press. Many questioned the timing because it was done ahead of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Pakistan tour.

Another netizen claimed that Prince Harry and Markle would be using the pregnancy news to keep the spotlight to themselves while the Cambridges are on tour.

“They would sell the pregnancy news as a major bombshell and use it for maximum exposure. They probably will, during the Cambridge tour. These two have zero respect for the protocol,” one netizen wrote.
