While he may still be out for a while due to his calf injury, “Dancing with the Stars” pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy is making strides in his recovery in the hopes he will be able to return to dance with partner Heather Morris again soon.

The “DWTS” pro has been out since week two of the current competition, after suffering an injury while rehearsing for the ABC show. However, despite an initial prognosis that indicated he’d be out for much longer than expected, Maks has already shown fans that he is making some major improvements in his recovery.

In a new video posted to Instagram, Maks shared that he is already walking following his surgery, is already capable of other movement as well, doing a grapevine as the camera rolled. Though the move caused him to grimace at one point, he seemed confident that he was on his way back.

“It’s getting there. Almost,” he said.

Maks has been working on his recovery outside of Los Angeles, working at a clinic in Ohio with a doctor who has also previously treated fellow pro Artem Chigvintsev and Maks’ fiancée, Peta Murgatroyd.

Since revealing the injury, Maks has continued to update fans about his progress, while Morris continues working with substitute partner Alan Bersten.

The two will be performing a tango together during week three of competition. Though her scores had improved from week one, Morris received some harsh criticism from Judge Len Goodman over the hip hop elements which were incorporated into the routine. However, despite the critiques, she and Alan both seem ready to impress with their tango, taking to Instagram to share rehearsal photos as they prepare.
