‘Injury Reserve’ Rapper Jordan Groggs Dies At 32

Rapper Jordan Groggs, a member of the Arizona-based hip-hop trio "Injury Reserve," has died. He was 32 years old.

The group confirmed his death on its social media accounts Tuesday (June 30). "REST IN POWER Jordan Alexander Groggs a loving father, life partner and friend," it wrote on both Twitter and Instagram, adding that he died Monday.

The cause of his death wasn’t immediately known.

Groggs, best known as Stepa J. Groggs among his fans, partnered with fellow rapper Ritchie With a T, born Nathaniel Ritchie, to form the group in 2013. He was reportedly an employee at a Vans store owned by Ritchie’s mother when they first met.

Groggs and Ritchie roped in Parker Corey, a young producer, into the lineup soon after and the trio gained local attention by performing at shows on Arizona State University campus.

The first-ever mixtape released by the group was "Live from the Dentist Office" in 2015, which was followed by "Floss" in 2016 and "Drive It Like It's Stolen EP" in 2017. The trio launched its first full-length studio album in 2019 in collaboration with artists like A-Trak, Rico Nasty, Freddie Gibbs, and DRAM, according to People magazine.

The group also started a GoFundMe page to support his family. “Groggs’s heart has touched everyone he has came across. He will live on through his family, supporters, and the communities he was apart of,” the page’s description read.

Groggs left behind his partner Anna and their four children Joey, Jayden, Toph, and Ari.

"Injury Reserve" collaborator Aminé paid tribute to the artist on Instagram. “rest in power to the kindest soul and one of my favorite rappers. love you Groggs,” he captioned the post.

British Pop band "Kero Kero Bonito" also paid tribute to Groggs on Twitter. “He was a memorably friendly and genuine person and with IR he made some of the best, most progressive hip hop in recent memory,” the band said.
