Olivia Munn has been supporting John Mulaney in his recovery from addiction, a report says.
Munn and Mulaney's new romance made headlines just days after he and his estranged wife Anna Marie Tendler announced that they are divorcing following six years of marriage. But while their relationship may have shocked fans, an unnamed insider told E! News that the "X-Men: Apocalypse" star and the "Saturday Night Live" writer "have known each other for a while and always been friendly."
According to the source, their relationship is "new and not at all rushed." At the moment, the insider said Mulaney is focusing on his recovery from struggles relating to cocaine and alcohol use, and Munn completely supports him on this.
"The focus for John is his recovery and Olivia fully supports that," the source told the outlet. "She has been very supportive of his addiction and recovery. She will continue to help him in whatever ways she can and be there for him. Right now they are just spending time together and enjoying each other's company."
In December, Mulaney checked himself into a rehab facility following a relapse in his decades-long journey with addiction. At the time, Munn expressed her support through Twitter.
"Sending SO MUCH love and support to John Mulaney. You got this," she tweeted.
Mulaney completed a 60-day rehab stay in February and is continuing to work on his sobriety as an outpatient.
Meanwhile, Mulaney and Munn met at a church in Los Angeles, a source close to the comedian told People. The "Love Wedding Repeat" star previously said she was obsessed with talking to Mulaney and once recounted meeting him at multiple weddings.
"We were at a wedding together and I was like ‘Oh, my gosh, do you and your fiancée want to go have dinner or something and go hang out?'" Munn told HuffPost Live in 2015. "At first it was cool, and then I kept going up to him at the wedding like, ‘So, you having fun?’ I was just so obsessed with hanging out with and talking with him."
After their awkward chat, Munn admitted that she reached out to him via email. However, he didn't reply to her.
"I might’ve got the wrong email — probably," she joked. "That’s what I tell myself."
Meanwhile, Mulaney has not given any further comments about his split from Tendler after saying in a statement that he plans "to focus on his recovery and getting back to work." However, his estranged wife said it was Mulaney who initiated the split.
"I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage," Tendler said via a rep in a statement to People. "I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery."
