Jaden Smith Reacts To Dad Will Smacking Chris Rock: 'That's How We Do It'
Jaden Smith has spoken out after his father, Will Smith, smacked Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards.
The 23-year-old rapper and actor took to Twitter to show his support for his father following his controversial moment at the event.
"And that's how we do it," he wrote Sunday night after the Academy Awards broadcast.
In a now-deleted tweet, he also shared a photo of himself wearing sunglasses in the backseat of a car. He reportedly noted in the caption, "My dad's speech made me cry."
Will made headlines earlier that night following his heated exchange with Rock, in which he came up on stage and smacked the comedian. The altercation unraveled after Rock poked fun at Jada Pinkett Smith's hair loss as a result of her years-long struggle with alopecia.
While presenting at the awards show, Rock joked about Jada's hair, saying, "Jada, I love ya. G.I. Jane 2, can't wait to see ya." Jada rolled her eyes at the joke, which was met with some uncomfortable reaction from the audience. This prompted Rock to defend his quip and say it was "a nice joke."
Apparently, the joke did not sit well with Will, who came up the stage and shocked Rock and the audience with his open-handed slap on the comedian's cheek. "Oh, wow!" Rock said after being smacked.
The audio on the broadcast was cut out after a seemingly rattled Rock said, "Will Smith just smacked the s--t out of me." As the camera panned back to Will, it was clear that the actor was fuming at Rock. "Keep my wife's name out of your f---ing mouth!" he told the comedian.
Rock's "G.I. Jane" joke on Jada was deeply personal for the couple. In 2018, Jada opened up about her alopecia on her "Red Table Talk" series and admitted how "terrifying" it was to deal with it at first.
"I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, 'Oh my God, am I going bald?' It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking in fear. That's why I cut my hair, and why I continue to cut it," she said at the time.
