Kentucky Woman Steals Car With Child In Back Seat, Blames Mother For Leaving Minor Unattended
A woman in Louisville, Kentucky, was arrested Tuesday for stealing a car with a child in the back seat.
According to local reports, the woman, identified as 37-year-old Cassandra Perkins, stole a car from another woman while the latter was talking to a pedestrian near the intersection of South Shelby Street and East Burnett Avenue.
Perkins jumped into the car and drove off with the vehicle owner’s child in the back seat noticing that the mother was distracted. The mother of the child soon caught up to Perkins while she stopped at a nearby convenience store. Police reports said the two women engaged in "an alarming, violent fight" that inflicted scratches on the mother’s face. Leaving the child and the car behind, Perkins then managed to escape to a nearby alley where she was caught by the Louisville Metro Police. It was not known how old was the child.
The child reportedly told police that while driving off, Perkins shouted at the mother, "Don't leave your [Expletive] kids in the car!"
The accused was charged with the attempted kidnapping of a minor, theft by unlawful taking, fourth-degree assault and driving with a suspended license.
Perkins reportedly lashed out at law enforcement, using a string of expletives while being produced in court Wednesday morning.
Perkins went on to defend herself by blaming the victim for leaving the child in the car. The judge denied Perkins’s plea for releasing her for treatment. When asked to sign a no-contact order with the victim, Perkins refused. She was being held in Louisville Metro Corrections facility.
