‘Krypton’ Premiere Date Revealed; Syfy Releases New Photos From Superman Prequel Series
Syfy has set the premiere date for the Superman prequel series “Krypton.”
According to a teaser posted on the show’s official Twitter and Facebook pages, “Krypton” will premiere on Wednesday, March 21, 2018. The network, however, has yet to announce the series’ time slot.
Along with the announcement of the show’s release date, Syfy has also released three new photos from the upcoming series. The pictures feature Superman’s grandfather Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe) and Seg’s grandfather Val-El (Ian McElhinney), among many others. Check out the images below:
Earlier this month, Syfy released an updated description for the series, which teases the time-travel element of the show. Read the new synopsis below:
“Set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet, ‘Krypton’ follows Seg-El (Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed. With Krypton’s leadership in disarray, Seg-El encounters Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos) who warns he’s under the clock to save his beloved world from chaos. Fighting to redeem his family’s honor and protect the ones he loves, Seg is also faced with a life and death conflict — save his home planet or let it be destroyed in order to restore the fate of his future grandson.”
News of Adam’s addition to the show surprised a lot of fans, as the character isn’t really part of the Superman canon. But as explained by executive producer David S. Goyer last July, they decided to add unexpected characters to the series to make it more exciting for the viewers, particularly for DC fans who already know the ins and outs of the Man of Steel’s home planet.
“‘Krypton’ features a lot of other characters from the Superman canon, some of which have been linked to Krypton before, some of which haven’t,” Goyer told Den of Geek at the time. “There are also some other DC Universe characters that aren’t specifically part of the Superman canon that will play a role. We’re definitely doing some things that I think people won’t expect. We’re making some unexpected additions to this Superman world that I’m excited for audiences to see.”
In addition to Cuffe, McElhinney, and Sipos, “Krypton” also stars Georgina Campbell as Seg’s lover Lyta Zod; Elliot Cowan as Kandor’s Chief Magistrate Daron-Vex; Ann Ogbomo as Lyta’s mother Alura Zod; Rasmus Hardiker as Seg’s best friend Kem; Wallis Day as Daron’s daughter Nyssa-Vex; and Aaron Pierre as Dev-Em.
