Lea Salonga And Sharon Leal To Be Part Of HBO Max's 'Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin'
HBO Max announced that Broadway star Lea Salonga, Sharon Leal and Elena Goode will join the cast of the reboot of "Pretty Little Liars." They will play the mothers of the latest generation of girls who will be tormented by an unknown enemy.
"Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin" will also have Zakiya Young and Carly Pope in recurring roles.
The streaming site had previously announced that lead characters in the reboot of the popular 2010-2017 series will be played by Chandler Kinney ("Zombies 2"), Bailee Madison ("Good Witch"), Maia Reficco ("Strangers"), Malia Pyles ("Baskets") and Zaria ("Black-ish").
The series is set in the present day, 20 years after a tragic event almost destroyed the fictional town of Millwood. Similar to the original series, a group of teen girls, the new "little liars," will be tortured by a secret enemy who is seeking revenge for the sins their parents committed two decades ago, Variety reported.
Salonga, who starred in the 2019 film "Yellow Rose," will play the role of Elodie, Minnie's ("Pyles") overprotective mother who works overtime for the sake of her daughter who suffered a traumatic experience in her childhood. The actress had lent her voice in "Mulan" and "Aladdin" and received a Tony Award for her role as Kim in "Miss Saigon."
Goode will play the role of Marjorie, a nurse at Millwood General. She has a secret that can threaten her relationship with her daughter Noa, played by Reficco. Goode previously appeared in the films "Straight Outta Compton" and "Elliot Loves."
Leal will play Sidney, a single mother who works in real estate. She is the mother of Tabby (Kinney). She also has an adopted daughter, Imogen (Madison). The actress previously worked on "Dreamgirls," "Why Did I Get Married?" and "First Love."
Young plays single mother Corey, the mother of Faran (Zaria). In the series, Corey tells everyone she's a lawyer though she actually works as a paralegal. Young has appeared in the TV series "Orange Is The New Black," "The Little Mermaid" on Broadway and in the play "Disgraced."
Meanwhile, Pope will appear in the series as Davie, Imogen's mother. Her relationship with her daughter has always been rocky but a chilling event from her dark past will improve their bond.
Producer and writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared on his Instagram page a photo of the five leads on Aug. 19.
"And then there were five. Our quintet of Pretty Little Liars (aka Stunning Empowered Final Girls) is complete! Welcome @maliapyles (playing Minnie) and @zariazariazaria (playing Faran) to Millwood! Can’t wait to join you in our bubble of thrills and chills! Now the only iconic character missing is… #plloriginalsin #HBOMAX," Aguirre-Sacasa wrote.
