Man Fatally Shoots Wife For Denying Sex, Throws 3 Young Children In Canal

A man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife after she refused to have sex with him, and also for throwing his three minor children into a canal, police said.

The incident happened in a village in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. The accused, identified as 35-year-old Pappu Kumar, was arrested Wednesday for fatally shooting his 28-year-old wife Dolly and throwing his three kids -- two daughters and one son -- into the Ganga canal.

Police said they have not yet recovered the bodies of the children aged 5, 3, and 18 months, The Times of India reported.

Kumar fled from his home after the incident, prompting locals to inform the police. He was caught the following morning and admitted to having killed his wife and throwing away his children into the canal, police said, according to The Indian Express.

“On Wednesday morning, when he was finally arrested, Pappu said he had also pushed the three children, 5-year-old Sania, 3-year-old Vansh and 18-months-old Arshita, into the canal,” Arpit Vijayvargiya, superintendent of police (city), was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Police sought the help of divers to search for the children in the canal, but there was no trace of them till Wednesday evening, Vijayvargiya said.

A police officer said that according to the accused, his wife was spurning his physical advances for the last 15 days, which made him angry.

“… Pappu had warned his wife that he would kill her if she did not do it. When she refused again on Tuesday, Pappu allegedly shot her in the head… After killing the wife, the accused was worried what would happen to their children, so he killed them too,” the police officer added.

Earlier this month, a 33-year-old man was arrested in the western Indian state of Maharashtra in a similar case. He bludgeoned his 29-year-old wife to death in front of their toddler son after she refused to have sex with him.

The man reportedly struck his wife’s head multiple times with a marble kitchen utensil. He also banged her head on the door, killing her on the spot. Neighbors were alerted after they heard the boy crying and reported the matter to police.
