Man Throttles Wife To Death In Presence Of Their 3 Children; Arrested
A man has been arrested for killing his wife in the presence of their three children.
The man, identified as Ramakant, lived in a rented home in the Indian capital Delhi with his wife, 28-year-old Soni, and their three children. The man and his wife were both daily wage laborers.
In the wee hours of Saturday, the accused throttled his wife to death in the bedroom and fled the scene. Their children -- aged between three and seven -- were sleeping in the same room when the murder took place.
A while later, the victim’s sister arrived at the house to check on the family and she found her sibling laying unconscious. She immediately alerted the neighbors who in turn contacted the police.
"Around 6 a.m. on Saturday, we received a call from Soni’s sister who lives in the same neighborhood and had knocked on the door to check on the family. When she noticed her sister unresponsive and the husband missing, she had raised a hue and cry," police officer Vijayanta Arya told local daily The Hindustan Times.
The woman was pronounced dead on the scene and her body was sent for autopsy.
Meanwhile, a manhunt was launched for the missing suspect who was traced and arrested the following day.
"We were following his trail and suspected that he would go to his native home in Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district. We raided his house on Sunday and arrested him. He has confessed to the crime," the officer told the daily.
Investigation revealed that the accused and his wife had frequent arguments over who ran the family. The man told the investigators that he was furious that his wife "was neglecting their children" and was too engrossed with her side of the family, which propelled him to take this step.
He remained in jail as of Monday and the charges levied against him were not known.
The incident comes weeks after a man in India stabbed his wife multiple times with a kitchen knife during an argument and killed himself by jumping before a train. The woman was in critical condition at the time with multiple wounds on her face, neck and abdomen.
