Mariah Carey has opened up about the “extremely uncomfortable” interview she had on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” where she was pushed to confirm the news of her pregnancy.
The particular incident happened in 2008 when she made an appearance on the show amid speculations at the time that she may have been expecting a baby. Recounting the incident, Carey told Vulture that she felt “extremely uncomfortable” at that moment and was not ready to talk about it because she had a “miscarriage.”
During the episode, the talk show host offered the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” hitmaker a glass of Champagne to know if the singer was pregnant or not.
“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath. I wasn't ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage. I don't want to throw anyone that's already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn't enjoy that moment,” Vulture quoted Carey, as saying.
The multiple Grammy award-winning artist also shared that she expected Ellen to show some “empathy” about the whole situation.
“[There is] an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented. But what am I supposed to do? It's like, [sings] ‘What are you going to do?’” Carey said during the interview.
During the show’s segment, DeGeneres asked about the rumors of her pregnancy with ex-husband Nick Cannon. The singer politely declined to talk about that and that’s when the talk show host took out a bottle of Champagne and tricked the singer to drink it.
Carey tried to dodge the situation several times.
“I can't believe you did this to me Ellen. This is peer pressure. Do you see what Ellen is doing? This is peer pressure,” Carey said at that time.
Carey’s remarks come a few weeks after DeGeneres’ talk show was accused of having a toxic workplace environment. The talk show host recently revealed that she will be talking to her fans about the whole incident that severely dented her popularity.
Three top producers of the show have already been fired from their respective jobs and the show is now looking to work under the management of Andy Lassner, Mary Connelly, and Derek Westervelt.
