Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sparked debate and one expert said it is not about them, but what’s best for the Queen.
Royal experts Tom Bower and Afuan Adom had a debate about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when they appeared on “Good Morning Britain.” They have different opinions about the Sussexes’ statement, with the former saying that it was a “really spiteful fury from Meghan.”
Adom questioned Bower why he said that Prince Harry was led by Markle to which the latter insisted that “it’s the truth.” Bower then pointed out that Markle had a whole life and a career of commercial exploitation before she married the royal family. However, she couldn’t set up a charity and market her footwear without her royal connections.
Adom reacted saying that Markle was doing a lot of charity work before she met Prince Harry. Thus, “it’s completely disingenuous to say without Harry she would have no status.” He also told Bower that it was spiteful of the biographer to say that the Sussexes are still planning to use the royal brand. Adom also questioned the negative press against the Sussexes to which Bower said that it was due to “hypocrisy.”
“When it comes to Harry and Meghan there seems to be no ability to see that it's right for them. It's not all about Meghan, it's about Meghan and Harry and Archie and what's best for them,” Adom said.
However, Prince Charles’ biographer disagreed pointing out that the Sussexes are part of the royal family and it will always be about the monarchy and the Queen and never about them.
“It’s not about what’s best for them, but what’s best for the Queen instead,” Bower said.
“If they do anything to damage the 93-year-old sovereign of this wonderful country, they have got to start questioning themselves. It’s selfish, victim-like approach to the world.”
In their statement, Prince Harry and Markle said that the Queen has no jurisdiction over the word “royal” overseas and has no power to stop them from using it abroad. They added that they have no plans using it. Twitter users reacted saying that the couple should have not released a statement about the Queen’s decision. Many also slammed them for disrespecting the monarch.
