Meghan Markle reportedly created a secret Instagram account before the holidays, but she also deleted it days later.

Athena Chrystanthou, a journalist for Express, claimed that the fake account was used to follow some of Markle’s friends’ social media accounts. However, it was deleted after the Duchess of Sussex reportedly received a slew of vile comments.

A source said that there was some really vile stuff written by social media trolls that saw headlines about Prince Harry’s wife.

“It really got to her and in the end, she had to shut down that account just before Christmas to protect her mental health. She felt very isolated and alone,” the source told The Sun.

Markle is not allowed to have a personal social media account so it is unclear if the fake one that was created was actually used by her. Before she got engaged to Prince Harry in November 2017, Markle had a personal Instagram account and she also actively updated her lifestyle blog The Tig.

However, since the Duchess of Sussex is considered a working royal just like Prince Harry, she is no longer allowed to share her personal photos, thoughts, and updates via her personal channel. At present, all information about the “Suits” alum is released through Kensington Palace’s social media accounts.

Earlier this month, it was also reported that the Duchess of Sussex had a hard time giving up her Instagram account after she wed Prince Harry at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. In fact, tabloid Radar Online also claimed that Markle had more than one fake account that she used to check updates about her friends’ lives.

“With so much drama surrounding her, Meghan really wants to know what everyone actually thinks of her,” a source said.

However, this may not be true because, during her engagement interview with Prince Harry, Markle made it clear that she didn’t mind having to give up sometimes to be with her husband. When she talked about her acting career, Markle also said that not acting at the moment doesn’t mean she has given up on her career for good.
