Melania Trump Defended Students Who 'Disrespected' Her; FLOTUS Said She's Fighting For Them

Melania Trump is, undeniably, one of the most talked-about women today. The First Lady of the United States has been plagued with numerous issues and controversies. In fact, the wife of Donald Trump was booed while speaking at an Opioid Awareness conference in Baltimore, Maryland, on Tuesday.

A mix of loud boos and cheers erupted as Melania strode across the stage during the said event. Though she was met with an unpleasant welcome before delivering her speech, the FLOTUS just smiled and told the crowd of middle school and high school students that she is fighting for them.

Melania Trump advised the students to seek help and reach out for support if they are struggling with addiction. She said that they should only talk to people they trust, before adding that it is never too late to ask for help.

The booing incident earned mixed reactions from netizens. Some social media users lambasted the students for disrespecting Melania, who is the wife of the most powerful man in America. “Some people have no manners period. SAD..For them...First Lady Melania Trump Booed and Jeered (with Some Cheering) by Classless Baltimore School Children at Anti-Drug Event (Video),” political activist-host Chuck Woolery wrote on Twitter.

“@FLOTUS @MelaniaTrump has been tireless in using her platform to warn of the dangers of opioids. This week as she was speaking at a Youth Summit on Opioid Awareness, some in the crowd openly booed her. Has respect been thrown out the window?” Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse, stated. “Absolutely disgraceful that @FLOTUS was repeatedly booed at Youth Opioid Summit in Baltimore. If any issue should be free from abusive, rude behavior, it should be protecting kids from opioids. Has the left no sense of decency?!?” 2^nd District of New York Representative Pete King said.

Others praised Melania Trump for responding to the boos with grace. “America is blessed to have a @FLOTUS with the grace, dignity & class not to get sidetracked by negativity, but to remain focused on serving the American people & moving America forward,” American Defense International, Inc. chairman Van Hipp wrote.

Even after she was booed at the youth summit, Melania still defended the principle of freedom of expression and rights of the students who “disrespected” her. “We live in a democracy and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the fact is we have a serious crisis in our country and I remain committed to educating children on the dangers and deadly consequences of drug abuse,” Melania Trump said in a statement released just hours after she had returned to the White House.
