  • Paris Jackson said she had to work hard and go for auditions
  • The model said her father, Michael Jackson, still influences her life
  • She also talked about her debut album "Wilted"

King of Pop Michael Jackson's daughter Paris' childhood was anything but typical. The model recently opened up about her father's parenting style, and how he ensured they were cultured and educated.

Paris, who appeared on the YouTube series "No Filter with Naomi Campbell" on Wednesday, discussed her new album, career and Michael's parenting style with the host.

“My dad was really good about making sure we were cultured, making sure we were educated, and not just showing us like the glitz and glam, like hotel hopping, five-star places,” Paris said.

Paris has an older brother, Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., and a younger half-brother, Prince Michael Jackson II.

The 22-year-old model noted she "was conceived in Paris from what I've been told which is a part of why I was named Paris."

Even though she was born in California, Paris recalled she "was kind of raised everywhere but I mean we spent a few years up north in like solving Santa Barbara area but I was raised kind of everywhere like the east coast the south, UK, Europe, the middle east."

“It was also like, we saw everything. We saw third-world countries. We saw every part of the spectrum,” she said.

Paris was 11 when Michael died in 2009. However, the model acknowledged her father continues to influence her life even now.

“Growing up, it was about earning stuff. If we wanted five toys from FAO Schwarz or Toys R Us, we had to read five books,” she said, New York Post reported. “It’s earning it, not just being entitled to certain things or thinking, ‘Oh, I got this.’ It’s like working for it, working hard for it — it’s, it’s something else entirely. It’s an accomplishment.”

She also reflected on earlier days of her career and said, "I need to … I go to auditions, I work hard, I study scripts, I do my thing." She also spoke about her debut music album, "Wilted," which dropped in November, and explained the connection with her father's music.

“He loved classical music and jazz. And hip-hop and R&B, and obviously the Motown stuff,” she said. “But also like radio’s Top 40, and he loved rock music, soft rock, The Beatles."

"So we grew up around all of that, and I feel like all of that somehow influences my stuff, and if you listen to my album, even there’s some movie soundtrack-like influences as well, like Hans Zimmer and Danny Elfman, as well as like rock bands like Radiohead and Manchester Orchestra,” she added.
