Michigan Mom Beats Up 2-Month-Old Son, Drives Him To McDonald's; Baby Dead
In a horrific case of child abuse, a woman in Flint, Michigan, was charged Saturday in connection with the death of her 2-month-old son.
On Nov. 11, the accused, identified as 23-year-old Kisha Person, severely abused the child by beating him up and dropping him on the floor.
"We believe the baby was hit across the face, dropped on the floor," Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said as per WKRC. He added that they also believe the woman rolled on the infant while he slept.
In spite of being aware that the baby was having a hard time breathing, the woman drove him to McDonald's instead of taking him to the hospital.
"Our understanding is that even though she was aware that the child's breathing was labored, and even though the child's color did not look good, instead of taking the child to the hospital, according to the information obtained by the investigators, she put the child in car seat and went to McDonald's," Leyton said.
The following morning, the woman called 911. Medics responded to the scene and rushed the infant to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to injuries.
The woman was taken into custody. She appeared in court Saturday and was charged with several offenses including murder, torture and child abuse. She could face life imprisonment if found guilty.
"Never seen anything like this in my 28-year career in law enforcement. I don't like to think about this child suffering, how much did the baby suffer. I'm saying a child. This is a baby. A 2-month-old. Never seen this before. It's horrible," Flint Police Chief Terence Green said.
Meanwhile, the victim's 1-year-old sibling, who also lived in the same home, was examined and taken into custody by Child Protective Services after no signs of abuse were found.
"Speaking as the Chief of Police, I just want to basically beg people if you suspect child abuse, things like this that are occurring, call and give us a tip," WEYI quotes Green as saying.
An investigation into the incident was ongoing and the woman remained in jail as of Monday.
