Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth may no longer be together, but the singer still has fond memories of their past relationship.

On Wednesday, Cyrus took to Instagram to celebrate the fourth anniversary of her song “Malibu,” which she wrote about her relationship with her ex-husband.

In a verse from the 2017 song, Cyrus sang, “We are just like the waves that flow back and forth / Sometimes I feel like I’m drowning and you’re there to save me / And I wanna thank you with all of my heart / It’s a brand new start / A dream come true / In Malibu.”

Cyrus released the song less than a year after she got re-engaged to Hemsworth. The couple began dating in 2010 and had an on and off relationship for several years before they married in 2018.

However, they broke up after less than a year of marriage. Nonetheless, Cyrus appeared to still have positive feelings associated with their former romance.

Cyrus shared a video of herself recording the song in her home studio. “Today is the 4 year anniversary of Malibu. A song about a place and person that at the time I loved very much,” she captioned the video.

“That love was reciprocated beyond what I could describe here with freedom & escapism. I lost that home along with many others in 2018.”

Hemsworth and Cyrus’ Malibu home was destroyed in November 2018 in the Woolsey Fire. In a 2020 interview “The Howard Stern Show,” Cyrus revealed she lost many sentimental items due to the fire and suggested that loss influenced her decision to marry the “Isn’t It Romantic” actor.

“We were together since 16. Our house burned down,” she explained.

“We had been, like, engaged -- I don’t know if we really ever thought we were actually going to get married, but when we lost our house in Malibu... [I] clung to what I had left of that house, which was me and him. And I really do and did love him very, very, very much and still do, always will.”

Cyrus and Hemsworth finalized their divorce in January 2020. When filing for divorce, the stars cited irreconcilable differences for the reason of their split. The former couple did not have any children and neither asked for spousal support.
