'The Morning Show': What We Know About New Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon Project
Apple TV+'s newest addition, "The Morning Show," has gotten quite a bit of buzz lately. The show, which stars a host of familiar faces, revolves around the staff of a popular A.M. news program. Details have been relatively scarce so far, but here's what we know about the series at this time.
As highlighted in the newly-released trailer (above), the series will follow the program's team as its deals with its lead Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell) being fired due to a scandal. In the wake of his absence, Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) picks up the pieces and carries on the news show without him. However, Aniston's character will then face new and unforeseen obstacles, such as workplace sexism and a reporter named Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) who seemingly has a desire to move up in the ranks.
According to Entertainment Weekly, gender dynamics are set to play a big role in the show. At an event in March to introduce "The Morning Show" to the world, Aniston gave a glimpse into what viewers can expect.
"Through the prism of those under-slept, over-adrenalized people in front of and behind the camera, we take an honest look at the complex relationships between women and men in the workplace, and we engage in the conversation people are a little too afraid to have unless they're behind closed doors," she said, adding, "You can't have an honest look at complex relationships between men and women with just women."
During the same appearance, Witherspoon called the show "a high-velocity thrill ride in which we pose questions without easy answers and shine a light on the fault lines in our society at this very complicated cultural moment."
As for the cast, aside from the aforementioned, Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw will also make appearances. The full cast can be seen here.
This will mark Aniston's first time having a starring role on a mainstream television show since she starred as Rachel Green on NBC's "Friends."
"The Morning Show" is expected to premiere this fall on Apple TV+.
