A Netflix TV Show With A Weird Title Has Viewers ‘Obsessed’
Don’t judge a TV show by its title. Netflix’s Top 10 always has quite an eclectic mix of TV shows and movies, but their latest hit original has an intriguing name: “Warrior Nun.” Think less Sally Field in “The Flying Nun,” more Sarah Michelle Gellar in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
The series, which premiered Thursday, is based on the Manga-style American comics with a similar title, “Warrior Nun Areala.” The Antarctic Press character was created by Ben Dunn in 1994, and Netflix picked up the rights to adapt the series to a TV show in 2015.
After premiering last week, “Warrior Nun” shot to the No. 2 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 and fans on social media are praising it.

So what’s the series about? Well, obviously there’s a nun with some fighting skills, but the drama definitely has a little more to it than that.
According to Netflix, “Warrior Nun” centers on, “a 19-year-old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. She discovers she is now part of an ancient order that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.”
The sci-fi/fantasy series follows this reluctant hero, Ava (Alba Baptista), as she joins The Order of the Cruciform Sword, a secret society of warrior nuns who fight evil. While Ava has Chosen One status, she isn’t fighting alone. Shotgun Mary (Toya Turner), Sister Lilith (Lorena Andrea), Sister Beatrice (Kristina Tonteri-Young) and Sister Camila (Olivia Declan) are there to help her fight the forces of darkness.
Some viewers are comparing the action scenes and fight sequences to that of a Marvel superhero project. Others have been appreciating the more feminist scenes of “Warrior Nun” and the LGBTQ representation.

Viewers will have to wait and see if this popularity lasts beyond the weekend. Netflix still hasn't revealed if "Warrior Nun" will be renewed for Season 2.
All 10 episodes of “Warrior Nun” Season 1 are available now on Netflix.
