New Fall 2017 TV Shows: 9 Series Premieres You Can’t Miss [TRAILERS]
Fall means one thing for TV lovers: series premieres. Tons of new TV shows will premiere in September and October, and some stand out a bit more than others. Since we’re at Peak TV with over 400 scripted shows on the air, it’s time to be picky with which TV shows viewers add into their already packed schedules. Below are the series that look like they might be the most worthy of your time:
“Star Trek: Discovery” (premieres Sunday, Sept. 24 at 8:30 p.m. EDT on CBS)
“Star Trek” is returning to the small screen this fall. The new drama is actually a prequel to the original, taking place about 10 years before. Instead of focusing on the ship’s captain (Jason Issacs), the first officer (Sonequa Martin-Green) will be the star. Maulik Pancholy, Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones, Rekha Sharma, Rainn Wilson and Mary Wiseman round out the cast.
Unfortunately, while the series will premiere on CBS, audiences will need to subscribe to streaming platform CBS All Access to watch the other episodes. Watch the trailer above.

“The Mayor” (premieres Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 9:30 p.m. EDT on ABC)
Young rapper Courtney Rose (Brandon Michael Hall) runs for mayor as just a joke for attention, but his charisma and love for the city get him elected. Courtney has to figure out how to run this town with help from his mother (Yvette Nicole Brown) and advisor (Lea Michele). “Hamilton” star and rapper Daveed Diggs serves as executive producer.
“Dynasty” (premieres Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW)
If you want a fun, soapy drama, this reboot is perfect. The show follows the Carrington family’s energy empire, of which Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies) expects to be the next COO. She’s shocked to learn that her father’s big announcement isn’t about her promotion but a new wife that’s almost his daughter’s age. Cristal (Nathalie Kelley) is the new fiancée that everyone suspects is a gold digger, and she’ll clash with everyone in her new love’s household, from his kids down to his butler (Alan Dale).
Don’t worry if you aren’t familiar with the original “Dynasty” from the 1980s. The CW reboot doesn’t require knowledge of the past, and it’s making some alterations — like changing Sammy Jo into a young gay man.
“S.W.A.T.” (premieres Thursday, Nov. 2 at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS)
“Criminal Minds” alum Shemar Moore returns to TV with a new cop drama, inspired by the 2003 film and the 1975 TV series. Moore plays former Marine Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, a Los Angeles native who is assigned to run a specialized tactical unit in the City of Angels. He’s still loyal to the city he grew up in, but he has to balance that with his loyalty to law enforcement. Will this help the community connect with the brothers in blue or will it isolate Hondo from his home?
Based on the trailer for “S.W.A.T.,” it looks like there will be more action than your average legal show.
