Newborn Left With Broken, Blue Legs Following Botched Delivery

In a disturbing case in the Russian city of Voronezh, a baby’s legs were broken by two unqualified midwives during a botched delivery last week.

The two women, who were hired to help deliver the baby, panicked when they saw the baby was feet-first. Instead of taking the woman to the hospital, they continued to pull the baby out by his leg.

Recalling the incident, the father of the baby said, “The baby didn't turn, but until the last moment they believed that this would happen during the delivery. Unfortunately, I had no-one to talk to about it. They were trying to correct the baby’s position.”

When things got out of hand, the woman was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, by then both the legs of the baby had come out. The doctors managed to save the lives of the baby and the mother but the child was left with broken legs which had turned blue.

Confirming the same, the hospital spokeswoman said, “He was born with fractures and other dangerous injuries that occurred because the mother decided to use the services of a private assistant in childbirth instead of going to the hospital.”

The mother and the baby have since been discharged from the hospital and the treatment of the newborn was going on.
