Nicki Minaj May Testify In Brother Jelani Maraj’s Child Assualt Trial
Nicki Minaj may take the stand to defend her brother, Jelani Maraj, against claims that he assaulted a child a few years ago.
Maraj’s lawyer recently revealed that the child’s family is extorting a huge amount of money from his client. During his trial, attorney David Schwartz told jurors that the charges were filed as part of the family’s “scheme” to get money from Maraj.
Minaj’s 38-year-old brother was arrested in 2015 and has been charged with predatory sex assault against a child, course of sexual conduct against a child in the first and second degrees and endangering the welfare of the child. Maraj pleaded not guilty to all three charges.
Newsday reported at that time that Maraj sexually abused a 6th grader for the span of eight months. The girl, who is now 14-years-old, previously detailed the abuse she received from Maraj. DNA and forensic evidence sided with the young girl’s story, according to People.
However, Schwartz told the same publication that the young girl and her family’s allegations are “all lies.” “The victim’s family tried to shake Minaj down for $25 million. It was all part of a plot. They made up these lies. They wanted to make the charges go away for $25 million,” he said. The lawyer also said that the “Anaconda” singer is on his witness list and may be invited to testify in favor of her brother.
Two years ago, Minaj posted a $100,000 bail to get her brother out of prison. Following Maraj’s arrest, Minaj posted a photo of herself with her brother via Instagram and quoted “For You I Will” in her caption. She also expressed her love for her brother and said that she would do anything to make him smile.
Meanwhile, Schwartz also claimed that it was the young girl’s mother who abused her and coerced her into going along with their made-up story. He also described the victim’s mom as “devious.” “There are 25 million reasons why this child was brainwashed to lie and make up these charges,” he added.
