Oscars 2022 Nominations See Big Snubs From Lady Gaga To 'Spider-Man'
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” enjoyed a behemoth box office, but it wasn’t enough to earn the blockbuster movie more than a single Oscar nomination.
The nominees for the 94th Academy Awards Ceremony were unveiled Tuesday, and some surprising names and movies were left out. The list for Best Picture includes films such as "Don’t Look Up," "Drive My Car," "Dune," "King Richard," "The Power of the Dog," "West Side Story" and more.
Fans and Hollywood insiders are perplexed at the exclusion of a few blockbuster films, mainly “Spider-Man” and Lady Gaga’s critically acclaimed performance in “House of Gucci.”
The Lady Gaga snub was unexpected as her Golden Globe and BAFTA recognition for the same film had fans awaiting her presence at the Oscars. The Grammy winner previously won an Oscar for Best Original Song in "A Star Is Born."
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” was only nominated for Best Visual Effects. The film is noteworthy for restoring the theater industry to its pre-pandemic glory and is the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time.
Along with its star-studded cast of Andrew Garfield, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe and many more, fans were baffled that it didn’t make the cut for Best Picture.
Garfield and Cumberbatch were nominated for Best Actor for their performances in “Tick Tick… Boom!” and “The Power Of The Dog,” respectively.
Check out the complete list of nominations for the Oscars this year. The awards ceremony is set to take place on March 27.
