  • Pete Davidson presented the Emmys' Outstanding Comedy Series to "Ted Lasso"
  • He gave a shoutout to Emmy host and former "SNL" co-star Kenan Thompson before opening the envelope
  • The comedian also celebrated "Saturday Night Live's" sixth consecutive win for Variety Sketch Series

Many did not expect Pete Davidson to show up at the Emmys, but he was there and even took the stage to present an award.

Davidson, 28, made an unannounced appearance at the 2022 Emmys Monday. He presented the award for Outstanding Comedy Series to "Ted Lasso." The hit comedy show starring Jason Sudeikis won Comedy Series for the second consecutive year and bested "Abbott Elementary," "Barry," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Hack," "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," "Only Murders In the Building" and "What We Do In The Shadows."

It was his first major event after splitting from his ex-girlfriend Kim Kardashian on Aug. 5, E! News reported.

Before he opened the envelope, the "King of Staten Island" star gave a shoutout to the Emmy host and former "SNL" co-star Kenan Thompson.

"The guy's been in the zone for the past 30 years, just making us smile, nothing but net. He's an absolute treasure, and I'm honored to call him a friend," Davidson said before joking, "This is just like 'SNL' because Kenan is doing all the work, and I'm refusing to say what the writers want."

It was also a big night for Davidson who got to celebrate "Saturday Night Live's" sixth consecutive win for Variety Sketch Series. But it would be the last opportunity for him to revel in the show's victory because he quit the comedy sketch series in May.

Davidson and three others — Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon and Kyle Mooney — all exited the show after the Season 47 finale. He was only 20 when he first joined the show and confirmed his departure from the show after eight years in an Instagram post shared by his friend, "SNL" writer Dave Sirus.

"I appreciate you guys always having my back and sticking up for me even when that wasn't the popular opinion. Thank you for always believing in me and sticking by my side even when it seemed comical. Thank you for teaching me life values, how to grow up and for giving me memories that will last a lifetime," part of Davidson's message read.

"'SNL' is my home. I'm so happy and sad about tonight's show. For so many reasons I can't explain. Can't wait to be back next year in a [John] Mulaney musical number."
