A restaurant owner in Madhya Pradesh, India, was booked after a customer complained that he was served non-vegetarian food despite ordering a vegetarian meal, police said on Wednesday.

The customer, identified as Akash Dubey Dubey, said he spotted several pieces of bones in his plate of vegetarian biryani while he was eating at the Indore eatery on Monday night, The Times of India reported.

According to Dubey, the waiter and the hotel staff apologized for the mistake after he complained about it to the restaurant manager and staff, Business Today reported.

Dubey filed a police complaint at the Vijay Nagar police station, saying the incident had hurt his religious sentiments.

A case under Section 298 (hurting religious sentiments) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against Swapnil Gujarati, the owner of Alba Baristo restaurant.

An investigation into the incident is underway.

Further legal steps will be taken after the completion of the investigation, police said.

In another incident, a fine amounting to Rs 1 lakh ($1,200) was imposed on Indian Railways after a passenger traveling on a Rajdhani Express train discovered a cockroach in the omelet that was served to him on Dec. 16, Hindustan Times reported.

The passenger took a photo of the meal as proof and posted it on Twitter.

He said that he bought an extra meal for his 2-year-old daughter and found a cockroach inside.

The passenger tagged the country's railway ministry, minister of consumer affairs, food and public distribution Piyush Goyal and other authorities on the said tweet.

Following his tweet, the online support service for Railway passengers RailwaySeva responded to him asking him to provide his passenger name record and phone number via direct message.

Meanwhile, the cook was immediately fired due to negligence and casual approach.
