Prince Charles ‘Went Ballistic’ When Brother Edward Did This To Prince William
Prince Charles was furious with Prince Edward for violating a rule concerning Prince William.
In Katie Nicholl’s book “William and Harry,” the author narrates how the Duke of Cambridge started university with a ban on any media coverage. Despite this, Prince Edward’s media company Ardent was spotted making a documentary for an American network about Prince William.
According to Nicholl, while the palace only said that it was “disappointed,” the Prince of Wales was said to be “apoplectic.” In fact, Prince Charles called Prince Edward at Bagshot Park and his voice was so loud it could be heard in the room adjacent to his study at St. James’s Palace.
Andrew Neil told Nicholl that he was told about a TV crew filming at St. Andrews. They were surprised and furious, too. Neil said that it was Prince William’s “idiot uncle” who broke the royal embargo and added that the crew would take students for curries to try to get information about Prince Charles’ eldest son.
“When Charles heard he went ballistic,” Neil recalled.
"I was told from an excellent source that he picked up the phone to his brother and called him a [expletive] idiot’, and told him in no uncertain terms to get out of the town.”
Prince Charles and Prince William’s press secretary Mark Bolland confirmed the issue at the time saying that the future king was very unhappy with the incident.
Nicholl added that Prince Edward was told that if he ever represented the royal family he should not have commercial interests, but the incident proved otherwise.
“As far as Charles was concerned, the incident, for which Edward publicly apologised, only served to highlight his argument that members of the royal family could not pursue independent careers and also carry out royal duties,” the royal biographer added.
Prince Charles also had a feud with his other brother Prince Andrew. The Netflix documentary “The Royal House of Windsor” revealed that Prince Charles’ vision of “magnificent seven” doesn’t include the Duke of York. Prince Charles’ list reportedly included Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Philip, Camilla and Kate Middleton. Ferguson’s ex was deemed a liability
However, Prince Andrew is better than Prince Charles in some areas. The Duke of York was reportedly a better fit for the navy and a more hands-on dad than the second in line to the throne.
