Prince Harry will have to bow to his stepmother Camilla after she became queen consort following Queen Elizabeth II's death Thursday, a report says.
The Duke of Sussex, who is said to have "tensions" with Camilla, likely would have been expected to bow to her Thursday while the royal family was gathered at Balmoral in Scotland, Page Six reported, citing unnamed sources.
Following Queen Elizabeth's death at age 96 in her Scottish estate, her eldest son Charles automatically succeeded her as king of the United Kingdom, taking the name King Charles III, while his wife Camilla became queen consort.
"The personal impact is likely the protocol changes that roll into action almost immediately," a well-placed palace source, who was not named, told the outlet. "The family will now have to bow or curtsy to King Charles and Queen [Consort] Camilla."
According to an earlier report from Page Six, the Duke of Sussex is "no fan" of Camilla, who had a long-running affair with his father while he was still married to Prince Harry and Prince William's mother, Princess Diana. Despite that, royal tradition dictates that Prince Harry will have to bow to the queen consort.
"It would be the protocol to bow to the new king and Queen," Majesty managing editor Joe Little told Page Six Friday. "Whether that happened under such circumstances [on Thursday or Friday morning] is debatable, but any time the royal family meets the new king and queen, the done thing would be to bow or curtsy to them."
When asked what the two brothers would call their father now that he is monarch, the royal expert said he believes that it will not change.
"It would still be Pa," Little suggested. "The Queen and Prince Philip were Ma and Pa to their children; whatever William and Harry called Charles and Camilla yesterday, they will call them that today."
Prince Harry was photographed looking distraught as he was driven into the gates of Balmoral hours after Queen Elizabeth's passing.
Prince Harry didn't join an earlier flight carrying his brother Prince William, his uncles Prince Andrew and Prince Edward as well as the latter's wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex. Instead, he flew to Scotland on a separate private jet sans his wife, Meghan Markle, and arrived before 8 p.m.
The queen passed away Thursday afternoon, before most of her family arrived. according to Page six. Only King Charles and his sister, Princess Anne, were reportedly there.
Markle was initially expected to travel to Balmoral with Prince Harry. However, the couple's plans changed due to "tensions" between them and the royal family following the duchess' bombshell interview with The Cut, an anonymous palace source told Page Six.
