Is ‘Princess Diaries 3’ Happening? Director Says Anne Hathaway And Julie Andrews Are In
The Queen and Princess of Genovia might be dusting off their tiaras. Director Garry Marshall said Anne Hathaway is willing to reprise her role as Princess Mia in “The Princess Diaries 3,” and Julie Andrews wants to play Queen Clarisse again.
During an appearance on “Larry King Now,” Marshall explained that he met with the two of them recently. “[Anne Hathaway] came to my office, she was quite pregnant…she puts her computer on the table, pushes three buttons, there’s Julie Andrews on Skype in Long Island,” Marshall said. “And we have a meeting. This is how we work. So I hope they do it.”

Previously, Marshall only confirmed that Hathaway was ready to reclaim the throne. “I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do ‘Princess Diaries 3’ in Manhattan,” Marshall told People last month. “Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby, and then I think we’re going to do it.”
Hathaway has since given birth to her son, Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman, but that doesn’t mean they can jump right into filming. Marshall first has to get Disney to greenlight the film. So far, the company hasn’t officially commented on the project, but it seems Marshall is already in touch with the studio.
“Well, you know, Disney is quite powerful,” he told E! Online. “And they say they would like to announce — not me — but we are talking.”
It isn’t clear where “The Princess Diaries 3” would pick up. Meg Cabot’s original 16-book series follows Mia’s love life with Michael, and actor Robert Schwartzman said he would consider returning to the films. However, the second movie veered away from the novels and paired Mia with Nicholas, played by Chris Pine. The “Star Trek” actor has confirmed that he’d like to be involved as well. It seems they’ll have to wait until the film is officially ordered to find out what happens to Mia’s love life.
