‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ Spoilers: 4 Things You May Have Missed In The Second Official Trailer
A brand new trailer for Lucasfilm’s latest venture into the “Star Wars” universe is finally here.
The clip — which is nearly three minutes long — provides an in depth look at “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” revealing new details and confirming fan suspicions on certain aspects of the cast, roles and plotlines.
Viewers are treated to flashbacks, showing Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) with her father, which reveals once and for all why she is fighting the good fight against the Imperial forces years later. It also becomes clear after watching the “Rogue One” trailer why exactly Jyn’s father is a wanted man and why she’s trying so fiercely to protect his legacy. Though the trailer is short, it features no shortage of action — viewers see Jyn putting together her band of followers, intergalactic battles and much, much more.

Here are four moments you may have missed watching the “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” trailer:
It’s Official — Mads Mikkelsen Is Galen Erso:
This should come as no surprise to anyone who’s been following “Rogue One” news closely. In fact, it was announced in 2015. The second trailer is, however, the first time fans get to actually see Jyn’s father, Galen Erso.
We Finally Know Why The Film Is Called “Rogue One”:
In the clip, Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed) is show speaking over a radio system. The former Imperial pilot is asked to provide the name of his ship, at which point he declares it “Rogue...Rogue One.” This seems to sit well with his cohorts, who are locked in intense stares from various positions within the spacecraft.
The Film Title May Also Allude To Other Aspects Of Their Mission:
Attempting to steal the Death Star plans will be no easy task. As such, Jyn, Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), and the rest of her crew will have to do quite a bit of sneaking around, attempting to go undetected. What better way to do that than to go undercover? In the “Rogue One” trailer Cassian and Jyn are seen wearing stolen clothes from members of the Imperial Army.
There Will Be No Shortage Of Callbacks To Previous “Star Wars” Films:
“Rogue One” will certainly introduce “Star Wars” fans to plenty of people and places they’ve never heard of or seen before, but the trailer — as well as the previous — suggest that there will be plenty of familiarity throughout. In the second trailer alone fans are treated with glimpses of X-Wings, the Death Star and everyone’s favorite “Star Wars” bad guy, Darth Vader. The previous trailer featured only a short glimpse at the back of his helmet, paired with his signature heavy breathing. The second, however, allows viewers to get up close and personal with him and it looks like he’s as menacing as ever.
“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” will be released in theaters on Dec. 16.
