Sarah Ferguson, Prince Andrew’s Wedding Different From Other Royals’ For This Reason

Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s royal wedding was much different compared to the nuptials of Princess Diana, Prince Charles, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The Duke and Duchess of York tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in 1986, just one year after dating. Princess Diana and Prince Charles wed at St. Paul’s Cathedral, while Prince Harry and Markle tied the knot at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Ferguson and Prince Andrew followed in the footsteps of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, who wed in the same venue. Years later, Prince William and Middleton opted to tie the knot at Westminster Abbey as well.

Prince William served as a page boy during Prince Andrew and Ferguson’s wedding. The second in line to the throne was photographed waving to the crowd while on board a horse-drawn carriage. Prince William also wore an adorable hat during the wedding ceremony.

Years later, Prince William and Middleton’s children served as page boy and bridesmaid at Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s daughter Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding to Jack Brooksbank.

Princess Diana, who was close friends with Ferguson at the time of her marriage, saw her niece Laura Fellowes walk down the aisle as a bridesmaid for Ferguson. Ferguson’s half-sister, Alice Ferguson, also assumed the same role. Zara Phillips and Zara Tindall were flower girls at the royal wedding.

Prince Andrew and Ferguson’s wedding also differed from that of other royals because of the duchess’ choice of bridal gown and designer. Lindka Cierach created a stunning piece for the mom of two that featured an embroidered detailing. Hearts, anchors and waved were also included in the designs, and they represented Prince Andrew’s background in sailing.

Ferguson’s wedding train measured 17 feet and featured her and Prince Andrew’s initials. The train was covered by her 20-foot wedding veil. And Ferguson’s tiara was an overgrown flower crown full of Prince Andrew’s favorite flower, gardenias.

The tiara, which is now known as the York Tiara, was a gift to Ferguson by Queen Elizabeth II. She only removed the headpiece after she signed her marriage certificate.
