‘Scream Queens’ Season 2 Adds Another Golden Globe Winner — Find Out Who The Actor Is!
“Scream Queens” has added a Golden Globe winner to its Season 2 cast.
Just when fans thought that casting for the sophomore run of “Scream Queens” was complete, FOX announced on Monday, Sept. 12, that Kirstie Alley joined the cast as a series regular.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the 65-year-old actress will portray the “brilliant and devious administrator” of the hospital owned by Cathy Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis). The hospital, called C.U.R.E. Institute, is unlike any regular health facilities, as it treats some the most fascinating and bizarre medical cases.
The FOX press release announcing Alley’s casting said that the Kansas native is “one of the great actresses of her generation, proving time and again that she is capable of great depth and range, as well as possessing a comedic timing second to none.”
Alley won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for her performance as Rebecca Howe on NBC’s sitcom “Cheers.” She won another Emmy for her portrayal as Sally Goodson in the TV film “David’s Mother.”
With Alley’s casting, “Scream Queens” now boasts two Golden Globe winners in its cast. The first Golden Globe winner to join the cast is Curtis, who has already earned two trophies from the award-giving body. Curtis, 57, won a Golden Globe for her performance on the ABC sitcom “Anything But Love” and another one for her performance in the action comedy film “True Lies.”
Alley, whose recent acting credits include “Flaked,” “Hot in Cleaveland” and “Kirstie,” joins previously announced “Scream Queens” newcomers John Stamos (Dr. Brock Holt), Taylor Lautner (Dr. Cassidy Cascade), James Earl (Candy Striper), Colton Haynes, Cecily Strong, Jerry O’Connell, Laura Bell Bundy and Cheri Oteri.
Aside from Curtis, other returning cast members are Emma Roberts (Chanel), Lea Michele (Hester), Billie Lourd (Chanel #3 /Sadie Swenson) Abigail Breslin (Chanel #5/Libby Putney), Keke Palmer (Zayday), Glen Powell (Chad Radwell) and Niecy Nash (Denise Hemphill), who are all reprising their roles from Season 1.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last month, series creator Ryan Murphy said that bringing in more experienced actors into the show is part of their plan to widen the audience of the comedy-horror series. “Before the show did seem very young, but now I hope there’s something for everybody,” he said.
“Scream Queens” Season 2 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 9 p.m. on FOX. Check out the synopsis for episode 1, titled “Scream Again,” below:
