"Sister Wives" Season 16 is about to return, but as the show's premiere date approaches, several sources claimed the fate of the Brown family isn't certain.

Earlier this month, Christine Brown and Kody Brown announced their split after being together for 25 years. According to sources, his other sister wives, Meri Brown and Janelle Brown are reevaluating their position in their family after Christine decided to move on from Kody.

"All the wives knew and were aware of the split, so it wasn’t news to them," an unnamed insider told Us Weekly. "If anything, it sort of inspired the others in one way or another to reevaluate their position."

Kody has four wives, Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn. Initially, his legal wife was Meri, and he only tied the knot with the other three through a religious ceremony. However, he divorced Meri to marry Robyn, so he could legally adopt her three children, Solomon, 10, Aurora, 19, and David, 21.

Polygamy is illegal in the United States, so only his union with Robyn is recognized by the law.

The insider said Janelle is close with Christine and the two are in "constant communication." Also, Janelle has found a new home and doesn't often see Kody and Robyn. She is enjoying her time with her children for the holidays.

"Her kids are her real family," the tipster noted.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that Meri could be the next one to leave Kody. Janelle and Kody have a great relationship, but Meri and Kody do not bond as much.

"Publicly, Meri will be the next one to split from Kody. She’s already been out with other men publicly," a source said before adding that Christine’s exit may have encouraged Meri to do the same. "Now that Christine’s gone, it might be something that’s able to happen without the contract ending."

Robyn was the last wife to join the polygamous family. However, Meri, Janelle and Christine couldn't compete with her because she seemed to be Kody's favorite. During the pandemic, Kody decided that they should isolate separately and he chose to be with Robyn.

"Robyn and Kody are a dream couple. She has him wrapped around her finger," an unnamed source told Us Weekly.

The insider added that Kody treats Robyn "like a queen." Also, the two are "very much in love" and "act like they're still newlyweds."

Before Christine and Kody confirmed their split, there were already rumors that she left him in Arizona and moved back to Utah. Also, in the trailer for "Sister Wives" Season 16, Christine teased about her decision to leave Kody.

"Why would I wanna live on a property with a dysfunctional marriage while right over there he has a fully functional marriage. Who would ever want to live like that," Christine said in the teaser.

"Sister Wives" Season 16 premieres on Nov. 21 at 10:00 p.m. ET on TLC.
