‘Supergirl’ Season 2 Spoilers: Melissa Benoist Explains Why Kara Stands By Lena In Episode 12
When Metallo (Frederick Schmidt) and Lillian (Brenda Strong) break out of prison in Season 2, episode 12 of “Supergirl,” the National City Police Department blames Lena (Katie McGrath) for their escape and arrests her. Although there’s overwhelming evidence proving that Lena is responsible for the duo’s prison break, Kara (Melissa Benoist) refuses to believe that L-Corp’s CEO is guilty.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Benoist explained why the Girl of Steel doesn’t think that Lena is involved with Metallo and Lillian’s escape. “Kara has given her the benefit of the doubt and trusts her because Lena has proven herself more than once that she wants to make the world a better place and she doesn’t want to subscribe to her family’s narrative,” the actress said.
Benoist added that Kara finds herself at odds with a lot people in the episode for standing by Lena. And one of those is James (Mehcad Brooks), who attempts to change how Kara feels about Lena by pointing out the latter’s connection to Lex Luthor. “I know she’s your friend but he is bad news,” James tells the Girl of Steel in the trailer for the episode.
When Kara refuses to believe that Lena has something to do with the prison break, a disappointed James says: “You have so much faith in her but none in me as Guardian.”
Whether or not Lena assists Metallo and Lillian in breaking out of prison, the young Luthor may have already decided to join her adoptive mother’s evil cause. At the end of the preview clip, Lillian brings Lena to a room that houses Lex’s warsuit, among many others. “[Here is] everything we need to rid this planet of Kryptonians once and for all,” Lillian tells her daughter.
