Truth About Ben Affleck Resenting Matt Damon For Snubbing Him, Proving Himself
Ben Affleck was not trying to prove to Matt Damon he was a reliable friend, despite rumors. Gossip Cop debunked report by stating the two remained good friends despite rumors of rift between them.
OK! reported Damon was distancing himself from Affleck amid the latter’s recent struggles with addiction and latest stint in rehab.
The magazine quoted an insider saying, “Matt is on a mission to reinvent himself in Hollywood. He feels like he’s been dragged down over the last year because of his close association with Ben and all of his baggage.”
“Matt’s doing everything he can to fix his image and hang out with more of his clean-cut friends such as Chris Hemsworth,” the alleged insider added.
The source then claimed Affleck felt a bit resentful over Damon supposedly snubbing him.
“He and Matt go back a long way. They grew up together and made it big together. But he gets where Matt’s coming from and plans to prove that he can be a reliable friend,” the source said.
Earlier this month, Gossip Cop had debunked a similar story claiming Damon was planning “a total overhaul of his social circle” by ridding himself of friends surrounded by controversies and one among them was Affleck.
The magazine had quoted an insider saying, “He’s going through a little restlessness in middle age and fixing his image was the kind of challenge he needed right about now. He’s acquiring some stable, ‘normal’ friends he can share the journey with.”
The premises of both the stories are wrong as the two recently cheered for their favorite baseball team at the game five of the World Series.
Few days after Affleck checked into rehab in August this year, a source told People that Damon “will always be there for Ben.”
Earlier this year, Damon had spoken about their friendship and Affleck being affected by his father Kent Damon’s death.
“The guy is like a brother to me and there are ups and downs in life. It was a bad year for him, too. He was very, very close to my father, they had a great relationship. Loved each other a lot. So last year was no real picnic for him either,” he said.
Affleck has also spoken about Damon’s importance in his life on several occasions. During an interview with Barbara Walters in 2012, he credited Damon as one of the people who helped him get through his battles with addiction.
“I had good friends. I had Matt Damon, I had my brother, and I had a nucleus of good friends that I grew up with and I had support from,” he said.
