“Fast and Furious” star Tyrese Gibson continues to call out Dwayne Johnson over his “Fast” spinoff. Universal Pictures

For the past week, since it was announced that Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs-centered “Fast and Furious” spinoff will be moving forward, there has been a lot of drama in the “Fast” family.

It mainly started when franchise star Tyrese Gibson took to social media to call out Johnson for agreeing to do a “Fast” movie without the main cast and for that project reportedly being the cause of the “Fast 9” delay.

Now, to find out more about what Gibson thinks about Johnson’s “Fast” spinoff and the “Fast” sequel being delayed, TMZ caught up with him while he was sitting inside of a limo on Tuesday to ask him a few questions.

“Yeah, congrats to him,” Gibson responded when the TMZ reporter asked if it was true that Johnson was getting a spinoff.

As he sounded a bit insincere, the reporter asked if he was actually happy that a spinoff was coming out.

“I don’t know what they’re doing,” the “Fast and Furious” star said. “Everybody coming at me like I’m hating on Dwayne about his spinoff, I’m not. The truth is, I just wish he was releasing it at a different time.”

Trying to get more out of him, the actor is then asked if this is only a conflict of interest with the release dates.

“It’s not a conflict, it’s just ‘The Fate of the Furious’ is like a holiday,” he said. “The ‘Fast and the Furious’ family, the fans, the tribe, the people that’s been rockin’ with us for 16 years, you know, pushing our release date back, it’s only happened one time in the history of ‘The Fast and the Furious’ and that’s when we lost our brother Paul Walker.”

He continued: “So, what’s the reason we’re pushing the release date now? I just got a problem with Dwayne. It appears that he’s being selfish, it appears that he’s so focused on furthering his own self-interest. He’s making decisions from the seat he’s sitting in.”

The interview then cuts to Gibson explaining that “‘The Fast and the Furious 9’ is not coming out until 2020.”

“Because of Dwayne’s decision,” the reporter asked in response.

“That’s [expletive] up,” Gibson simply replied.

While Gibson has been very open about his thoughts on everything on social media, this is the first real time he’s spoken about it to a reporter and on camera. It also didn’t give him the chance to write out his words and re-do it if he wanted to, it was all on-his-feet and in-the-moment responses.

This is probably why he tried to have his comments be a little less wordy and a little bit more calm. It allowed him to focus a little bit more on what he was saying, as he was saying it. When he was able to do it on his own terms on social media, that’s when he let it all out and said everything that he really wanted to say.

“I tried to warn you guys... You thought I was hating...... I was simply fighting to keep the family together what makes us great is when you see us all together we don’t fly solo,” Gibson posted on Instagram on Thursday. “I got 3 years of venting on this clown - They offered but YOU didn’t have to agree with a solo #HobbsMovie #OriginalFastFamily we salute you and stand on your shoulders #VinDiesel #PaulWalker #RobCohen #RomanTej were offered a spin off we TURNED IT DOWN.”

Though Gibson continues to call out The Rock for his spinoff project, it seems like Johnson is trying to take the high road and make it all about the movie and not about the drama.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for this franchise that I’ve enjoyed droppin’ blood and sweat in over the years and my vision is to create greater opportunities for not only my fellow FF cast mates, but for other amazing actors as well who want to be a part of something new and cool,” Johnson wrote on an Instagram post on Monday about his Hobbs spinoff.
