'Vampire Diaries' Star Nina Dobrev On Boyfriend Ian Somerhalder: 'I Didn't Want To Be Dating One Of My Costars'
Nina Dobrev, half of one of Hollywood's hottest young couples, is dishing out some juicy scoop about her relationship with "Vampire Diaries" costar Ian Somerhalder. The pair are definitely no strangers to PDA, but Dobrev shockingly revealed that she initially wanted nothing to do with the CW hottie!
Sharing heat inducing chemistry on-screen and off-screen, and constantly being hounded by engagement rumors, Nina Dobrev's relationship with Ian Somerhalder surprisingly started out at a pretty low temperature.
"The Vampire Diaries" premiered in 2009, and now going into it's fourth season, Dobrev, 23, and Somerhalder, 33, have been dating for almost two years. The starlet graces the cover of the October issue of Seventeen magazine with some explaining to do about her relationship.
"The first time i was on the cover of Seventeen, the cover line said, 'Nina: Why She Wouldn't Date Any of Her Costars.' And then cut to two years later..." Dobrev joked with the magazine. "It's funny that I said that, but you know what? It was honestly what I believed at the time."
According to Dobrev, her goal was to be professional on the show, and "I didn't want to be dating one of my costars."
People tend to stray off course though, and for Dobrev this meant dating "The Vampire Diaries" Damon Salvatore...or Ian Somerhalder.
"Sometimes you can't help who you have a connection with, and you can only fight it for so long -- which i did for a really, really long time," she explained.
Just because Dobrev found this connection on set doesn't mean that the pair are ready to tie the knot though.
"I'll get e-mails from my parents, after they've read an article in the tabloids, like, 'Just checking in to make sure you're not married...Did he propose?!?'" Dobrev laughs with the magazine. "The Vampire Diaries" star wants to reassure fans that marriage is not a top priority for her right now though. "My parents married young, but I personally don't think there's any rush.
Nina Dobrev's comments to Seventeen magazine are similar to what she told the September issue of Canada's Fashion magazine...but not as scandalous.
"Eventually I am going to marry and have a family, but not anytime soon," she told the magazine. "I'm not going to pull a Miley.
Unintentionally, Dobrev started a mini Hollywood cat fight with newly engaged 19-year-old Miley Cyrus. "The Vampire Diaries" star was quick to apologize though, taking to Twitter to issue an apology to the former Disney star.
"Note to self, light hearted comments don't always translate in magazine articles. Big fan of @MileyCyrus - do you need a flower girl? ;)" Dobrev tweeted on Aug. 1.
You can catch Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder's on-screen chemistry when "The Vampire Diaries" returns to the CW on Thursday, Oct. 11.
