'Vikings' Season 5, Episode 17 Preview: Ivar's Turn To Attack
War will continue in “Vikings” Season 5, episode 17. After King Harald (Peter Franzén) failed to take Wessex, it will fall on Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) to attack the weakened Saxon kingdom. The only problem is that his brother, Bjorn, (Alexander Ludwig) will stand in the way.
A preview video of the next episode posted on the Facebook page of the TV series shows Ivar planning an attack on Wessex. After the people of Kattegat became suspicious about the mental health of their king, with some even remembering Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), Ivar now has a chance to prove that he is worthy to be called a god.
The only problem for Ivar is that Bjorn has struck a deal with King Harald to take Kattegat. Harald had previously made a deal with Ivar that granted him the right to rule the newly conquered kingdom when Ivar dies. Bjorn is ready to make the same deal.
King Harald may be a defeated warrior, but he still has a large army that he can field against Ivar. With Bjorn at his side, the consequences will be unpredictable. Will Ivar underestimate his former ally after the latter’s defeat?
Back in Wesex, a country that will be dealing with the tragic loss of a member of the royal family, the people will have just days in order to prepare for another army of Vikings. The preview video of episode 17 shows Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) advising the king to make him the general of his army.
The practical thing for King Alfred (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) to do is to appoint a Viking as the head of his army, because Ubbe is the strongest warrior he has, and it is good to have someone who knows the enemy well.
Forbes noted that Alfred made good on his promise of granting land to his guests, and he went a step further by giving all of East Anglia to Ubbe. The land grant not only helps Ubbe to realize his father’s vision, but it also gives him a good reason to fight like never before.
However, the king will have challenges when it comes to making Ubbe the head of his army. He is already facing backlash from his people for inviting the north men into the kingdom. There are also concerns about the king’s health.
Alfred’s mother may have thought that she is doing Wessex a favor by killing her son Aethelred (Darren Cahill). A video posted on the Facebook page of the TV series shows the death of Aethelred. However, she and the kingdom will have to face the consequences of that death in the next episode, as they prepare to defend against the next invasion.
