Will Prince Harry Ever Be King? Kate Middleton’s Baby Changes Line Of Succession

A lot of things are changing for Prince Harry now that he is engaged to Meghan Markle and expected to get married in the spring. Despite this major milestone in his life, his marriage to the American actress will put him no closer to becoming the King of the United Kingdom.

The birth of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s third child will knock the 33-year-old down to sixth in line for the throne, according to USA Today. When Middleton gives birth to her new baby, the newborn will become the fifth heir to the throne. The new line of succession will put Prince Harry behind the new royal baby who will be behind sister Princess Charlotte, 2, brother Prince George, 4, father Prince William, 35, and grandfather Prince Charles, 68.

Should Queen Elizabeth II, 91, pass away, Prince Harry would have to wait for five other people to either abdicate the throne, retire or die before he could ever become king.

While outsiders looking in may feel for Harry, who has dropped down further in the line of succession, the Prince previously admitted that he is well aware that he may never become the King of England. In 2016, a young boy asked Prince Harry whether there will be an opportunity for him to take the throne. “Are you ever going to be King?” the child asked.

“That’s the question everybody wanted, let’s be honest!” the royal replied. “You’ll be glad to know, probably not!”

A little more than a year later, during an interview with Newsweek, Harry told the publication that having the coveted title of king is not something that is desired by members of the royal family.

“Is there any one of the royal family who wants to be king or queen? I don’t think so, but we will carry out our duties at the right time,” he said.

The Prince explained that being a part of the royal family was a duty to the people that they do not take lightly. “We’re involved in modernizing the British monarchy,” he said.

“We are not doing this for ourselves but for the greater good of the people,” Prince Harry added.

While Prince Harry remains dedicated to his royal duties, the responsibility of being king will most likely never be something he experiences in his lifetime.
