Cameron Diaz talked about "hardballing" when dating.
Diaz, 49, appeared on "The Drew Barrymore Show" Wednesday. During the interview, she got candid about dating and introduced the concept of "hardballing" to Barrymore and her co-host Ross Mathews.
Hardballing is a dating term that means one should be clear about their expectations when dating whether they want a serious long-term relationship or just a casual fling, Logan Ury, the director of Relationship Science at Hinge explained, as per InStyle.
During the chat, Mathews shared a story about one of his pals who had unknowingly practiced the concept in her dating life.
"I have a girlfriend who kept saying, 'These guys keep leaving me, they keep leaving me,' [and], I go, 'Well, what are the first dates like?'" he said. "She said, 'Well I ask them if they want kids.' Girl, what are you doing on date one? You don't ask if you want kids, you ask if you like pizza or the color blue."
For Diaz, Mathews' friend is a "natural hardballer."
"She is like, 'This is what I want, are you in?' So, she shouldn't be looking at it that they are leaving her, she should be going, 'You know what, you don't add up to me, you're not at my place,' but that's okay," Diaz explained. "Then you at least know that we are not in the same place. And I think that's what dating is all about."
Mathews agreed with Diaz saying it's important for those who are dating to know what they want. He added that if the one they are dating does not add up to them, then they should not be afraid to move on.
"And mostly if the other person is not holding onto you, let go of them," Diaz concluded.
Diaz is currently not active in her acting career. She decided to focus on her family with her husband, Benji Madden. The "Bad Teacher" star and the Good Charlotte musician tied the knot in 2015. They welcomed their daughter Raddix Madden in December 2019.
In October, the "Charlie's Angels" alum said that motherhood is the "best part of my life." According to her, she and her husband were having the best time of their lives after their daughter's arrival.
"I’m so grateful and so happy and it’s the best thing ever and I’m so lucky to do it with Benj and we’re having the best time. I’m thrilled. I can’t believe it," she told makeup artist Gucci Westman during an Instagram Live.
