‘Dancing With The Stars’ 2017 Spoilers: Which Season 24 Pairs Scored The Highest In Week 1?
“Dancing With the Stars” is back in a major way. The Season 24 pairs took to the ballroom to show their stuff for the first time Monday night on ABC.
The episode kicked off with a performance from Team Valmani — Fifth Harmony member Normani Kordei and Val Chmerkovskiy. The pair set the tone for the night as expected, though some “DWTS” fans felt their score could have been higher. Rounding out the competition was Team Golden Giggles — Simone Biles and Sasha Farber, who kept the momentum alive.
Before the “DWTS” Season 24 premiere viewers placed bets with Oddsmakers about what might go down. Bets included Heather Morris’ background as a dancer coming up, David Ross wearing Chicago Cubs gear and Bonner Bolton sporting a cowboy hat. Those who put money on those odds are a little bit richer as of Monday night!
Other bets included which teams would score highest, which would score lowest and who would get sent packing after Week 1. Odds were Team Golden Giggles — Simone Biles and Sasha Farber — would score highest while gamblers projected Mr. T and Kym Herjavec would get the lowest score. “DWTS” fans also bet that either the “A-Team” star or Chris Kattan would be going home first.
Were they right? Here are the highest-scoring routines of “DWTS” Season 24, Week 1 as well as some highlights:
Team Valmani
Val Chmerkovskiy and Normani Kordei came out of the gates swinging. They scored an impressive 27 out of 40 for their first routine, rocking a quickstep.
Team Blades Of Glory
Artem Chigvintsev and Nancy Kerrigan wowed the judges with a beautiful Viennese Waltz to “She’s Always A Woman” by Billy Joel. They one upped the first performers with a 28 out of 40.
Team Mango Tango
As predicted, “SNL” alumni Chris Kattan was a bit of a disaster. He and partner Witney Carson encountered some turbulence during their routine, though judges loved his goofy bad dancing. Chris’ humor may have shone through, but it wasn’t enough for a high score. They received an underwhelming 17 out of 40.
Team Denim And Diamonds
There’s no denying that Sharna Burgess and Bonner Bolton have chemistry, especially not after their premiere routine. The pair performed a country cha cha to “Move” by Luke Bryan. Their connection stole the show! The pair scored 22 out of 40 and we can’t wait to see what they do next.
Team Cuchi Cuchi
Legendary musician Charo and partner Keo Motsepe were a surprise powerhouse during the “DWTS” Season 24 premiere. They performed a salsa that blew the judges away. Their high score of 29 out of 40 wasn’t enough for Charo, though.
After the official numbers came down she lashed out a judge Bruno Tonioli. Host Tom Bergeron was able to hold her back, but the moment left viewers more than a little confused. It's not clear whether the outburst was a joke or a real flare up.
Team Baby Got Bach
Nick Viall showed off his dancing chops throughout Season 21 of “The Bachelor” and it’s clear he picked up a move or two from all that time spent with The Backstreet Boys. He and partner Peta Murgatroyd crushed a cha cha routine and we think they’re in it for the long haul. They scored a 24 out of 40.
Team Maksimum Heat
Maksim Chmerkovskiy is back in the ballroom and he’s ready to win. He and partner Heather Morris are feeling the pressure from fans to be great, but it doesn’t appear it’ll be a problem. They performed a stunning Viennese Waltz, scoring a 28 out of 40.
Maks is, of course, up against his fiancée Peta Murgatroyd. Although he’s hoping to take her down, he made sure to shout her out after his routine. The adorable moment melted host Erin Andrews’ heart.
“Peta, I love you and that was amazing,” he said.
Team Lady And The Gramp
Some people counted Lindsay Arnold and David Ross out before the “DWTS” premiere, but it’s become clear they’re serious contenders. They paid homage to David’s baseball roots, dancing to “Go Cubs Go” by Steve Goodman. They scored a 28 out of 40, placing them near the top of the pack.
Team Pretty Xxpensive
“DWTS” fans had high hopes for Gleb Savchenko and Erika Jayne and they did not disappoint. The pair performed an impressive salsa to the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star’s single, “XXPEN$IVE.” While Len Goodman felt it was “raunchy,” viewers loved it.
They scored a 24 out of 40 and are ready to bring the heat. After all, Erika did promise to gift Gleb her matte Lamborghini if they win. However they do, she’s got the support of her co-stars. Lisa Rinna and Eileen Davidson were in the crowd cheering her on.
Team Shad Squad
It looks like gamblers were right to bet on Rashad Jennings. The NFL free agent and partner Emma Slater hit the ballroom to perform a cha cha to “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars. They scored a 31 out of 40, the highest score of the night at the time.
Mr. T And Kym Herjavec
As predicted, this “DWTS” Season 24 pair was a little rusty. They performed to the “A-Team” theme song and, while it was cute, the judges were not wowed. They scored a 20 out of 40.
Team Golden Giggles
Before Season 24 of “DWTS” fans projected Simone Biles and Sasha Farber would be the team to beat and they absolutely are. They performed a beautiful tango which judges hailed as the dance of the night. They scored a 32 out of 40, edging Team Shad Squad out by one point.
Which team will be the first eliminated? Tune in to Week 2 on Monday, March 27, at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC to find out.
