‘Psych: The Movie’ Premiere: How Did The USA Network Series End?
A little over three years ago, on March 26, 2014, “Psych” fans had to say goodbye to the USA Network series after eight seasons. Now, they’re getting a chance to say hello again as the show returns tonight with the premiere of “Psych: The Movie” at 8 p.m. EST.
This new two-hour film will pick up three years after where the show’s series finale left off, but where exactly did the show leave off? If the three years away from the detective comedy series has made your memory a little hazy, here’s a helpful reminder of what the characters were up to the last time you saw them.
At the end of the final episode of the series, aptly titled “The Break Up,” Shawn (James Today) parted ways with Gus (Dulé Hill) via a goodbye DVD and headed to San Francisco, where he immediately decided to go after Juliet (Maggie Lawson).
Once Gus watched the DVD, he realized that after eight years of working with Shawn and doing detective work, he no longer wanted to be a pharmaceutical salesman and that he wanted to continue to work with his friend. So, he headed to San Francisco to tell him this.
After Shawn heard all of this from Gus in person, they decide that they want to keep Psych alive. They continue working together by setting up shop in San Francisco and working with Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson) and the San Francisco Police Department, despite them saying that they already have someone.
With the job and friend situation handled, the only thing left for Shawn to do was tell Juliet how much he loves her and wants to be with her, which he did. He proposed to her, she said yes and then the engagement ring was immediately stolen by a mugger. In true “Psych” fashion, Shawn, Juliet and Gus took off to try to catch the guy, thus beginning their same, but new life in San Francisco all together.
Tonight, “Psych: The Movie” will take fans into the lives of these characters three years later to see what they have been up to.
“The ambitious friends, along with some returning fan-favorite characters, come together during the holidays after a mystery assailant targets one of their own,” the synopsis teases. “A comedic thrill ride follows, as the wild and unpredictable PSYCH team pursues the bad guys, justice…and food.”
The original “Psych” creator, Steven Franks, co-wrote the movie with Roday, so fans already know it will have the same feel of the classic show.
Be sure to tune in when it all goes does on “Psych: The Movie” on USA Network tonight at 8 p.m. EST.
