Chapel Hill Family’s Pet Pug, First Dog Positive For COVID-19 In US

A Chapel Hill's family pet pug tested positive for the coronavirus after the family was tested. The family of four was also tested and the father, mother and son tested positive while the family's daughter and their two other pets, another dog and a cat tested negative. This is the first case in U.S. of a human to animal transmission of the virus. The earliest case to surface was that of a dog in Hong Kong.

COVID-19-Related 'Inflammatory Syndrom' Appears Among UK Children, Report Says

A UK alert reported a coronavirus-related "inflammatory syndrome" appearing among infected children of all ages. The report said that the condition looked like a combination between symptoms of a toxic shock syndrome and an atypical Kawasaki disease; both conditions exhibit redness and swelling on the skin. Furthermore, the report said that while these conditions were seen in children positive for the COVID-19, some cases tested negative for the virus.

After a recent viral Facebook post of a COVID-19 survivor, who was a main candidate as a blood donor for his convalescent plasma, but got rejected to due to his sexual orientation, many groups urged the FDA to consider implementing looser guidelines regarding the deferrals for blood donation amid the COVID-19 crisis, especially for potential donors who are members of the LGBTQ+ community. Currently, the FDA has reduced the previously 12-month ban period on blood donation for men who have sex with men, among others, to only 3 months to prevent a nationwide blood supply shortage in the time of the pandemic.

Thailand Man Positive For COVID-19, Spits On Passenger, Drops Dead

A man in Thailand who was posthumously confirmed positive for COVID-19 was seen on a surveillance footage spitting on an unidentified train passenger. He was then seen vomiting and coughing before he dropped dead in front of a toilet. Authorities are looking for the unidentified passenger who was exposed to the patient.

Second California Red Cross Trailer Stolen

A Red Cross trailer containing $4,000 worth of emergency supplies was stolen from a Riverside parking lot in California on Sunday. The vehicle was the second Red Cross to be stolen since March 22. It is unclear if the two thefts were connected.

Researchers: COVID-19 Patients Still Contagious 8 Days Post-Recovery

A small study showed that patients who have seemingly recovered from COVID-19 symptoms could still be carriers of the virus and could still be contagious eight days post-recovery. CDC recommends extending self-isolation for two weeks post-symptoms recovery. Researchers say that because the study has a limited scope, it is unclear if the circumstances would be the same for the elderly or the immunocompromised population.

Mercy Sister Ship, USNS Comfort Arrives At NY Harbor To Help Fight COVID-19

Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort sailed for the east coast on Monday, March 3, and is carrying 1,000 beds, 12 operating rooms, a medical laboratory and more. Also on board were 1,200 doctors, nurses, anesthesiologists, x-ray technicians, orderlies and other medical staff. Like its sister ship, the USNS Mercy which sailed west to Los Angeles to serve as a referral hospital for non-COVID-19 patients, the Comfort would relieve shore-based hospitals of the overwhelming amount of patients.
