'Unwell' Teen Goes Into Labor; Turns Out Dad Had Been Raping Her For Over A Year

Police have arrested a man who has been accused of raping his teenage daughter for over a year. The heinous crime came to light after the unmarried 19-year-old delivered a baby boy Wednesday.

The disturbing case of abuse and incest happened in the Indian city of Ahmedabad, reports India Today.

According to the police, the teenager was not feeling well since Wednesday morning. After her sickness showed no signs of abating, the girl was rushed to a government hospital in the village of Sihor.

To the shock of her mother and other relatives, the girl went into labor and within hours, delivered a baby boy. Her stunned relatives questioned her about the pregnancy, and the father of her child. That's when the girl broke down and narrated her harrowing tale to her mother and relatives.

She said her father had been raping her for the past one year, unbeknownst to anyone, including her mother. The accused, a daily wage worker, would assault her either when her mother is not at home or when she was sleeping. The teen, however, could not tell her mother or any other relatives about the abuse and the mental trauma.

She soon became pregnant but kept it hidden from anyone. After the incident came to light, the hospital authorities alerted the police.

An investigation was launched into the allegations, and the father was arrested Thursday. Police have confirmed that the victim's mother was oblivious to the abuse or the pregnancy.

The officers have also moved the teenager and her child to a medical facility in the nearby town of Bhavnagar.

A report said the investigation is likely to be handed over to the women’s wing of the police. Besides the victim, the accused has two sons and a daughter. All three are married, and no longer live with him. The man lived with his wife and their youngest daughter in a slum in Shihor town, the report said.

A similar case was filed in the Indian state of Haryana in March where the father of a 14-year-old girl was arrested for raping her. Police were alerted about the abuse by the victim's mother after the girl revealed her ordeal to her. The accused raped the girl, when her mother, a domestic maid, was away at work.
